CHANEL’S ICONIC 2.55 BAG IN INSTALLATION AT HARRODS

Chanel has taken over Harrods in time for London Fashion Week

There is no more aspirational and iconic fashion brand in the world as Chanel, so be sure to make time to stop by the latest ‘jaw dropping’ installation at Harrods, London.  The installation of iconic Chanel codes is named ‘Une Promenade’, a massive eight-room installation dedicated to Chanel history that pays homage the iconic fashion brand.

All 23 windows of Harrods department store on London’s Brompton Road are devoted to Chanel’s latest fall/winter collection.  The theme Enchanted Forest was created by Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s creative director and reflects the whimsical Chanel F/W 2011-12 collection.  Additionally Chanel has created two ‘ephemeral’ pop-boutiques for fashion and beauty.

“Une Promenade’ is not to be missed! Wander through Coco Chanel’s walled rose garden; linger in Karl Lagerfeld’s library and breath in the essence of tweed in Room 54.  Let your spine tingle as you step ‘inside’ the iconic Chanel 2.55 bag and celebrate the world’s best selling fragrance in the Chanel No. 5 room.  As you leave ‘Une Promenade’ and step back on to the busy Brompton Road take a slow-deep-breath, and be well in the knowing that little part of Chanel enchantment will go with you.

*The Chanel promotion will last three weeks and it is believe to have costed nearly £4 million.

Une Promenade is open to the public from 10am - 6pm

TREND WALK THROUGH LONDON’S EAST END - INSPIRATION AND COLOUR STORIES

The East End of London is one important reason why London is the number one fashion capital. It may not be home to the biggest fashion house boutiques but it is London’s creative hub and ground zero for design inspiration and trends - most of which will eventually be scooped up by fashionista’s and design companies.  Most notably the son of the The East End is the late Alexander McQueen whose design house remains centered in the local community today.

VideoTake a walk through The East End

The East End - as it is known - is a fertile ground for raw organic design.  It is gritty and sometimes it is not pretty, but it is home to the most authentic people, new best music clubs, restaurants, design agencies, fashion houses, commuter bike culture, Spitifields Market, vintage stores and on and on. The East End is a melting pot of cultures, artists, musicians and designers all combining to produce a non-ostentatious design vibe, where design studios and trendy warehouses sit next to curry houses and pubs.
If you are a designer and don’t already live there, then hop on The Tube to Liverpool Station and just start walking.  First stop - Spitalfields Market - then continue east exploring as you go Shoreditch, Clerkenwell, Hoxton, Hackney and Bethnal Green.  Along the way you will find superb eating, the best pubs, endless design studios, private clubs, bike shops, markets and design galleries.  The most important thing you will find is inspiration, everywhere!  No need for expensive design resources, just stop and look around you. Each blink of the eye brings another design idea, another interior inspiration and another product colour story.  VIDEO - TREND A WALK THROUGH THE EAST END

FARRELL PART 2 - JUST RELEASED

NARRATED BY ROBBIE WILLIAMS AS HE

INTRODUCES HIS COLLECTION, FARRELL

 WATCH -  FARREL PART ONE

TAKE THAT ‘boy band’ singer Robbie Williams is the latest celebrity to succumb to the trend of brand extension by adding a mens design collection to his portfolio. The new menswear collection by Robbie Williams is named Farrell and will be launched in September 2011.

Leading up to the Launch Robbie, and The Farrell collection are cleverly inviting you into the brand by telling a story in the medium of 3 stylized videos. The alluring story begins with the story of Robbie Williams and his Grandfather Jack Farrell, otherwise known as Jack the Giant Killer.

The label is named after William’s grandfather Jack Farrell, aka Jack the Giant Killer, who was a notable dresser in his hometown of Stoke-on-Trent, and who lived a hard life but lived it well. The Farrell range was created to honour Jack’s legacy and the brand motto is ‘Wear it in, wear it out’. THE TELEGRAPH

The look is ‘Robbie Williams - Classic Northern English”, and includes classics such as Macs, ¾-length coats, cable-knit cardigans, Homberg felt hats, flat caps, cricket caps and polka dot silk scarves.  In the words of Robbie William the collection is about the integrity of the working class man.

*The autumn/winter 2011 the Farrell collection will be sold exclusively through House of Fraser and online at very.co.uk. Prices from £35 for a light weight T-shirt and go up to £350 for the ¾-length coat.

VOGUE MODELS TREND YOUTHFUL - 10 YEARS OLD YOUTHFUL

The La Times asks ‘Pretty or weird’? Reporting on the controversy sparked by the French Vogue December issue featuring 10-year-old model Thylane Lena-Rose wearing heavy make up, stilettos and a very ‘come hither’ look.  This is part of the over-all growing tend toward younger and even child models in the fashion industry. Leading the way is celebrity Elle Fanning, new star of the Marc Jacob ‘Oh Lola’ perfume campaign and 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) who recently signed a deal with Miu Miu.

Discussion as to young models or the sexualization of girls in the fashion industry is not new. Take for example Brooke Shields in “Pretty Baby” or young actresses such as Lindsay Lohan and Katherine Heigl who all started their careers as young models. However the provocative nature of the photographs in the December issue of French Vogue has sparked new discussion and concerns.  Some find it very ironic give the recent international crack down on Child exploitation by the U.S. Justice and Homeland Security departments.

It’s unlikely that then-Vogue Paris editor Corinne Roitfeld (since replaced by Emmanuelle Alt) would think this is p…, but it is very likely she and guest editor fashion designer Tom Ford wanted to be provocative … and succeeded.  LA TIMES

Adult like glamorizing of girls as young as 10 years old is perhaps playing with fire and not exhibiting personal accountability with regard to the serious situation of children who are living as victims of child exploitation - not to mention enabling the culture of self obsession with extreme youthful appearance and unattainable thinness. What do you think?

FABULOUS OLDER LADIES - ICONIC STYLE MAVENS IN SHORT FILM

ADVANCED STYLE: AGE AND BEAUTY SHORT MOVIE - LINA PLIOPLYTE - NOWNESS.COM
PHOTO - NOWNESS.COM
I could not help but add a little up date to my previous blog - FABULOUS OLDER LADIES posted March 4, 2011.  Advanced Style by Seth Cohen is one of my favourite fashion blogs which also happens to be representative of the largest growing and most influential age demographic - post baby boom generation. It is wonderful to have a modern representation of exciting and style lead older ladies, it reminds us ‘younger’ ladies to be more adventurous - have more fun with fashion and life.  More importantly it shows us that the process of aging can be a beautiful thing.  Look and learn because this large and  financially lucrative demographic will be influencing fashion companies and trends in the years to come.
Seth Cohen’s Advanced Style: Age and Beauty blog presents the most ‘fabulous and fashionable’ older ladies and gentlemen of New York - style and sartorial splendor is the order of the day!

NOWNESS

Today on NOWNESS we feature Cohen’s iconic style mavens in an exclusive short by filmmaker Lina Plioplyte. “Hearing them speak about clothing is so fascinating,” says Cohen, “There is history and memories in what they are wearing and I think it’s important to show that storytelling aspect, as well as their vitality and creativity.”

REYKJAVIC FASHION FESTIVAL - The coolest newcomer to the international fashion week circuit.

REYKJAVIK  MARCH 2011
Fashion weeks are not limited to only London, Paris and Milan. There is an Atlantic Fashion Week, Bulgaria Fashion Week, Karichi Fashion Week and even a Wimbledon Fashion Week. However one of the newest and coolest cities to be added to the ever growing international list is Reykjavik.  Iceland is a country in economic repair and looking to rebuild their countries fortunes.  One logical way for Iceland to do this is by revitalizing and resourcing their own already very well respected, and unique creative culture, in order to stage a come back.  Enter Reykjavik Fashion Festival 2011.
Most new fashion weeks struggle to get international fashion media to even notice their existence never mind actually show up or provide coverage, however Iceland has a well deserved head start and therefore successfully attracted international design media.  Iceland is probably the smallest country with the biggest ‘cool factor’ that exists.  Just flip through any back issues of magazines such as Wallpaper Magazine, Nylon Magazine and Dazed for evidence of  fashion media’s love affair with all things Iceland including; Icelandic music, Nordic design, Icelandic landscape - not to mention the countries mythically beautiful residents.
Renowned for eccentric creative talent and product design Iceland is  now focused on developing locally resourced design. The economic crisis in 2008 has actually worked for the benefit of young designers by opening up once very expensive high street retail spaces for almost nothing.   Reykjavik Fashion Festival 2011 sponsored by Iceland Air was by invitation only and was well attended by international fashion media who described it as inspiring and unique.  As an emerging Fashion Week Reykjavik will off course need time and financial support however there is lots of potential for future of Icelandic Design.
